If necessary, get an account at Dropbox where you can also back up your files.

Photoshop 1 and 2:
Finish your card

FYI:  There is now a "set 5" on my computer containing more tutorials from that site

PS 1 or 2:  Want extra credit?
Create an Octohedron of unicorn images (school related) we can give to the office staff.

Digital  Graphics:
Continue working on video.  Remember, I will only see you Monday and then on your test day.  On test day, all you should have to do is some last minute things and then "share."

Assignment:

  •  Download the three files for today's assignment (use the user name "myfiles" and password "unicorn":  Link to files
    • Open the Hexahedron file and all the images from the zip file (open them in Photoshop).

    • Note for 2nd and 6th periods:  We are going to have visitors Thursday who are coming in to take their photos for their own ornament.

    Graphic Design/Photoshop 1:
    Assignment:

    •  Create a greeting card!  The best card (chosen by a panel of teachers) will be used to send to administrators and other district officials and friends.  One card will be chosen from Photoshop 1 and one card from Photoshop 2-3.

      • Create a new file in Photoshop, using a resolution of 300 and a size of either 5" wide by 7" tall or 7" wide by 5" tall--just depends if you want to do a landscape or portrait design.
      • The card MUST BE YOUR ORIGINAL WORK--you may not use backgrounds from the internet or artwork or images from the internet, BUT you may take just a bit from this one and a bit from that one and combine a bunch of them to make your own work.
      • You CAN look up how to create your own snowman in Photoshop.  Or snowflakes.  Or a snowstorm.  Or Santa.  (Hint:  do a Google search for how to make a holiday design or graphic in Photoshop--I bet you'll turn up a lot of tutorials, maybe even actions.)**
      • The message is up to you!  Be creative.  Be funny.  Be serious.  Be sardonic (look it up).  The choice is yours.
      • Upload a screenshot of your layers (appropriately named) and your final image.
      •  Write a 2 to 3 sentences about how you completed the project.

    • ** Here are some quick searches I ran just to give you an idea:
How to create a comet trail in Photoshop
    • How to create a starry night in Photoshop
    • How to create a snowflake in Photoshop
    • How to create a snowman in Photoshop

    Assignment:
    •  About Me Video:  Create a video about yourself!  The video must be at least 2 minutes but not over 4 minutes.  Here is what you'll be graded on:
      • (40%) Balanced mixture of media:  video, photos, music, voice-overs
      • (20%) Flow of video:  Use of transitions, titles, etc.
      • (20%) Completed "story": Don't do a video on where you were born--brainstorm facts about your life that tells who you are.  Ask yourself "who, what, where, when, and why" questions.
      • (20%) Creativity:  Up to you, but you might want to try different types of transitions, using the Ken Burns effect (but don't overuse it), fading music in and out, etc.
    • Example questions:
      1. Who...are my parents, my grandparents, my siblings, my extended family, my friends...
      2. What...do I like to do, do my parents do, is my favorite subject, do I want to be when I grow up....
      3. Where...was I born, did I grow up, have I lived, would I like to live, do I want to go to college...
      4. When...was I born, did I move to New Braunfels, will I graduate, did I go to ?????????, did I get my first car...
      5. Why...did we move to New Braunfels, do I want to be a ???????? when I grow up, do I want to move to ????????, do I love ?????????? or hate ?????????...
These are just example questions to get you started on your video.   What you really use is totally up to you!

Note to PS2 and PS1: I found a site with absolutely awesome tutorials.  Unfortunately, it costs $19 a month to have access to the full version of the tutorial as well as the source files.  Since we have been experiencing some issues with the free tutorials (i.e. they are riddled with mistakes) I would like to join for at least a month in order to access them.  So, I am asking each of you PS2 students (and any PS1 students who want to as well) to donate a dollar in order for us to join for a month.  If everyone completes a different tutorial during that month we will have at least 20 or more good tutorials for the class.  Take a look at the site.  I will have a donation jar at my desk.

      2.  You MAY get other images to add to your portrait, but you still have to use the original 5 in some way.
      3.  The more believable your portrait is, the better your grade.  I should not see any "lines" where you can tell something has been added.  Try to match skin tone and hair color.
      4.  Upload a screenshot (Cmd Shift 4) of your layers--this will be worth 20% of your grade.
      • The layers must be named.
      • The screenshot should be as large as possible, and only of the layers palette
      5.  Upload your portrait
      6.  Explain how you made it (20% of your grade).
      • In your explanation say which tools you used and which images came from which photo.  (Example:  "I used the lasso tool to select the nose from Reeves, the ear from Steph, etc.  Then I used the eraser with a soft edge to erase the backgrounds....)
      • Three sentence minimum.  You don't have to go into step-by-step detail, but anyone reading with some Photoshop knowledge would know how to do it themselves.
      7.  Spelling and Grammar:  This is a test grade:  make sure your spelling and grammar are correct.
      8.  You have 4 class periods to work on it.  Make it good!
      9.  Email me with the link to your image (not your blog) if you want to enter your project into the contest.
      10.  Winner will receive:  A certificate, 10 extra-credit points, a "goody bag" of prizes
      11.  Runners-up will receive:  a certificate, 5 extra-credit points, their choice from the prize box
      12.  Last day to email me will be Friday, Oct. 26th.

      Voting on Halloween Project
Click on the link above to view the projects, then go to the voting page to cast your vote.  You can only vote once.  If you vote more than once, all your votes will be removed.

      Everyone:
If you used a dynamic layout when you created your blog, please change it.  I need to be able to see your tags and archive without having to click around to find it.

How do you know if yours is a dynamic layout or not?  When you're looking at your blog, can you see your archived posts, or do you have to click on the little tabs on the side of the page?  If you have to click the tabs, your blog is a "dynamic" blog.

      Here's how to change it:
While viewing your blog home page (where you read your posts):
      • click on the little house in the top right corner
      • then on the next page click the dropdown on the far right of your page next to "View Blog"
      • and click "Template"
      • On the template page, scroll down and choose any template EXCEPT a dynamic template.

      Graphic Design:
Watch this Liquify tutorial using the "arm" file from Tuesday
Using a photo of your choice, change the expression of someone using the warp tool.
Upload the 3 images to your blog:  the arm, the before expression and the after expression.

For Everyone:  Adding labels and the label gadget is a grade.  If you would like your grade to be a 100 instead of a "Missing," please go back and look at the Oct. 8 post.

Everyone must do this assignment:  Tag your posts
      Yes, it's for a grade
Yes, I mean everyone (Photoshop 1 and 2 and Graphic Design)
After you tag one of your posts, come back to this page for the rest of the assignments.

Graphic Design (Photoshop 1):  More Working with Text
Note about last assignment:  Although I said you didn't have to use exactly the same text as I did, your text did have to look like mine, at least the size and the amount.  I have not graded the assignment yet, but if you only used "Hello" or something like that, you will not pass the assignment.  The purpose of the assignment was that you know how to fit text around an image. You still have some time if you want to delete that image and replace it with another.

      More Working with Text
These next three videos will show you how to get more creative with text:
      • Clipped Text:  watch the video then find your own photo to do the same.  Don't just slap a word on the photo, make it creative!  Here's the Clipped Text video.
      • Text to Path: Open a new Photoshop file (use "default" Photoshop size) and follow along.  Here's the Text to Path video.
      • Warp Text:   Open a new Photoshop file(use "default" Photoshop size), type the word Hello, make it the size in the video, then follow along.  Here's the Warp Text video.

      Adv. Graphic Design (Photoshop 2):
      • If you didn't get a chance to look at the poster design examples, go to the Resource link above.

      Digital Graphics:
      1. Finish your Review of the Review from Friday
      2. Tag all your posts (this will make it easier for teachers to find reviews)
      3. Check for any scanning in your DIM box behind Mrs. Miller's desk.
