    • Use at least 3 techniques you've learned since starting InDesign.  In your caption, explain what those three things are.

    • Download and unzip both files:  all the videos for the project are in one file and all the files you will need are in the other.
    • Play the videos and follow along with the narrator.  Do everything he does--including creating the folders.
    • Note:  in video 2, the narrator says you can skip the next video, but you cannot!  If you do, you will mess up the files.

    Note:  When you open Indesign for the first time, go to Indesign > Preferences > Units & Increments and change the Ruler Units (Horizontal and Vertical) to inches.

    • In video 3 you will be creating 2 items:  a postcard and an airplane with a clipped image
      • Use your own images for the postcard.  
      • For the plane use one of your own images in place of the sky and 
      • use this image in place of the plane.
        • After you click on the "this image" link above, go to file > save page as and save the image to your desktop.
        • Open the plane image with Illustrator
        • Use the direct select tool to click on the plane and copy 
        • Go to your Indesign document and paste.

      If you have not seen these yet, take a Look at these examples.
      Take your photo.
      Make sure you start with the correct file size!  These will be printed, so it is VERY IMPORTANT to start with a US Paper file size.  You can change it to horizontal if you wish.
      Once you have the file created, "Place" your photo on the canvas by going to File > Place.
      This way your photo is automatically a Smart Object.

      One more VERY IMPORTANT rule:
      When placing your text, start from the inside and work out.

        • Your portrait will be much more interesting if you can think of a pose you would like to use rather than just standing there.

        Also, if you wanted to donate one of those books to our class, I wouldn't be adverse to the idea (used a PSAT vocab word there... :)

          Outline a celebrity's face and hair.
          Find an image of a celebrity--just a head shot.
          Outline the face and hair using the pen tool.  You don't have to fill your paths, just outline.
          Create a text layer below your image and put the celebrity's name.
