The drawing below is a visual illusion.  When you look at it one way, the image seems to be protruding, sort of like a pyramid.  But when you look at it another way, it seems to be going inside itself.  You can enhance the illusion by careful use of color.

First, use the magic wand to remove all the white (remember, there are settings you can use to remove all the white at once, instead of clicking in each section).
Use different colors to fill in the areas.  Try using the same color in specific areas, for instance the same square that seems to be protruding.
Have fun with it!

Review Project:

  • Calendar Project:
  1. Go to the videos and files page and find the link for the Calendar project.
  2. There are 5 videos for this project.
  3. This is a "Review Project," meaning you will use skills that, for the most part, you have already learned.
Advanced Graphic Design/Photoshop 2:
Project:
  • Create a 2013 calendar cover using only text and effects (no photos or clip art).
  • One image will be chosen by the board of the Arc of the Hill Country to be used in various applications, including a calendar.  Although the Arc serves the special needs population of our community, the board specifically wants an image that will be generic enough to use in any application - in other words, you don't have to worry about the graphic reflecting the purpose of the Arc, just worry about creating a cool, fun graphic.  All images posted to your blog on or before Monday, January 21st will be submitted to the board for consideration.
  • You must keep your original Photoshop image!  If your image is chosen, the board will need the original in order to print the image at different sizes.
  • Make your cover 12" wide x 8" high and 300 dpi.  You have to stick with these dimensions.
  • Here are some examples.
  • FYI, I found all the examples when I searched for "Photoshop Text Effect."  There are tons more!

Assignment:
  • Begin a practice (25 second) Stop Motion Animation.  This doesn't have to be award winning--it's called "Practice" for a reason!  Anything goes--a pencil rolling across a desk, whatever.
  • Note:  You will need to figure out a way to keep your camera steady.  I have one tripod and I'm looking to borrow at least one more, but some of you may be working without one (unless someone has one he/she can bring?)
