• You have a nephew or niece that loves to play a certain [insert video game].
• He/she is having a birthday party, and you've been asked to design the invitation.
• Make 2 pages (like you did with the business card) so that one side is the front, and one side is the inner part of the invitation.
• Use the same document dimensions as you used on the baby shower invitation.
• Use at least 3 techniques you've learned since starting InDesign.  In your caption, explain what those three things are.

• Click the Gaming Graphics link above.
• Click the Indesign link and the Tasty Tutes link
• Download and unzip both files:  all the videos for the project are in one file and all the files you will need are in the other.
• Play the videos and follow along with the narrator.  Do everything he does--including creating the folders.
• Note:  in video 2, the narrator says you can skip the next video, but you cannot!  If you do, you will mess up the files.

Note:  When you open Indesign for the first time, go to Indesign > Preferences > Units & Increments and change the Ruler Units (Horizontal and Vertical) to inches.

• InDesign tutorials 1, 2 and 3 (Click the Gaming Graphics link)
• In video 3 you will be creating 2 items:  a postcard and an airplane with a clipped image
• Use your own images for the postcard.  
• For the plane use one of your own images in place of the sky and 
• use this image in place of the plane.
• After you click on the "this image" link above, go to file > save page as and save the image to your desktop.
• Open the plane image with Illustrator
• Use the direct select tool to click on the plane and copy 
• Go to your Indesign document and paste.
• Upload both finished images and write a sentence about what you learned.

If you have not seen these yet, take a Look at these examples.
Take your photo.
Make sure you start with the correct file size!  These will be printed, so it is VERY IMPORTANT to start with a US Paper file size.  You can change it to horizontal if you wish.
Once you have the file created, "Place" your photo on the canvas by going to File > Place.
This way your photo is automatically a Smart Object.

One more VERY IMPORTANT rule:
When placing your text, start from the inside and work out.

• Paste text into a Word document.
• Take out all the returns, like with the Gilligan assignment.  You should have one large document.
• Take a screenshot of your Word document and upload it to your blog.
• In your caption, explain why you chose the text you chose.
• Tomorrow you will be taking your photo.
• Your portrait will be much more interesting if you can think of a pose you would like to use rather than just standing there.

For all other students, if you ever want a quick way to fix photos, this would be good to have.  But if you are reading this late and the link says it costs 99 cents, don't get it.  It will be free again sometime next month.

Also, if you wanted to donate one of those books to our class, I wouldn't be adverse to the idea (used a PSAT vocab word there... :)

Outline a celebrity's face and hair.
Find an image of a celebrity--just a head shot.
Outline the face and hair using the pen tool.  You don't have to fill your paths, just outline.
Create a text layer below your image and put the celebrity's name.
You could also use a teacher or an administrator.
